BRANCHING OUT

Branching Out believes in the value of cultural diversity but understands that sometimes a little bit of support is needed to build strong and sustainable intercultural teams.

Therefore, Branching Out helps organisations and teams in the Brainport Eindhoven area to retain international talent and to effectively work with them by focusing on soft factor issues such as culture, socialising, and settling in.

At Branching Out we aim to provide businesses and participants of our programmes with a safe environment in which we can learn together and from each other. To be able to achieve this, it is of utmost importance that participants of our programmes are motivated, reflective, open and respectful in communication and willing to work towards building a positive atmosphere.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Having grown up in a family with an originally German mother and Dutch father, different cultures crept into my life without even registering this. While living abroad, in China and the UK, I became much more aware of cultural differences and the effect these can have. I felt comfortable and thrived in international environments, making me hesitant to repatriate back to the Netherlands. However, the Eindhoven region combines ‘gezellig Brabants’ with internationalism and in my opinion they work harmoniously together. Therefore, it quickly became clear to me that the Eindhoven region was the first place where I truly felt at home.

As I continued to be drawn towards the international community, I worked in the secondary department of the International School Eindhoven. At the International school I taught and supported students with learning needs (such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety and Gender Dysphoria). Working closely with students, parents and colleagues from all over the world further spurred on my interest in cultures. Submerged in the international community in Eindhoven I observed the difficulties with cultural differences and struggles faced by internationals to settle in.

This led to the start of Branching Out where I strive to help international talent to become content, culturally aware, socially competent and self-sufficient individuals who can comfortably settle in the Brainport Eindhoven region.
